How to create a “familiar faces” basket

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

If you follow me on TikTok, then you’ve probably seen the video about the familiar faces basket we made for Lennox. And if you haven’t seen the TikTok I’m referencing, click below to go check it out!

Babies LOVE to look at photos of real life people, and love even more to look at familiar faces!

Making these “familiar faces“ cards were pretty simple. I used Canva.com to create the cards (though PowerPoint, Word, or Google Docs would work just as well). There is a paid version and a free version of Canva, so if you are making an account just for this, make sure you are doing the free one!

For the cards, I simply added a photo of each person and typed their name below the photo. Here is the exact template I used!

Once the cards were designed, I printed them on cardstock, cut them out, and laminated them! (If you need a laminator, I recommend the Scotch Thermal Laminator) I chose to cut the cards out first and then laminate (rather than laminate and then cut) because I wanted the lamination to stick to itself. Babies put things in their mouth and drool a lot, so this helps the cards last longer.

Make sure when you are cutting your cards out after laminating that you round the corners! Those laminating sheets get pretty darn sharp if you aren’t careful! The last thing you’d want is for your little one to cut their hands or mouth on these.

We included people Lennox sees on a fairly regular basis (hence “familiar faces“). We included Lennox (you’d be surprised how many people forget to make one for the child), mom & dad, grandparents, great-grandma, aunts & uncles, cousins, and a couple of close friends and neighbors… oh and can’t forget our dog!

Some other people you may want to include are daycare teachers, other friends from daycare or school, and any pets.

There you have it, pretty simple! You can get self-sealing laminating sheets from Walmart or Amazon. I personally use the $30 Scotch Thermal Laminator and laminating sheets. I like the thermal laminating sheets over the self-sealing sheets because I feel they last longer and look better, but that’s my personal preference.

The baskets we used are the Small Woven Storage Baskets from Amazon!
